How to Relieve Fluid Retention

The weather is hot now and we all like to be outdoors and enjoy the sun and activities like to attend cookouts, family gatherings and eat our favorite foods. but , not everyone cooks the same ,some use more salt than anything. Our bodies crave for salt ,but too much is not good. On hot days mostly humid days we retain so much fluid that our bodies feel like a big water balloon . The problem is that we have to much salt in our diet. It can be other factors such as, our bodies own way of telling us that our period is on the way, food allergies, medication, or it could be a sign of heart or kidney disease.

If you press your fingers on your flesh , preferably your legs you will see an indent remains for a few moments, this means your retaining fluid. If the fluid hangs around a couple of days or if it returns often you need to see your health provider. It maybe heart or kidney disease.

You need to drink more water, the water that you body retain has nothing to do with the water that your drinking. It actually helps your body get rid of extra fluid. Skip salt when you cook. Most prepared foods have so much sodium and that can contribute to your fluid build up. Try using salt alternatives. Try a cup of black ,parsley, aspargus these are all natural diuretics. Remember your electrolytes , did you know that potassium and magnesium counterbalance sodium and help reduce fluid in your body. To get enough potassium eat grapes, oranges, and even vegetable juice and the good old yellow banana. Now to get enough magnesium I suggest that you add fiber to your diet such as wheat germ and nuts and whole grains. If your ankles are swollen you need to go and sit in that comfortable recliner and put your feet up. While sitting with your legs up this sends the fluid back to your circulatory system. If this is a problem you'll you will need to go see your doctor and always keep a foot stool near by
  • eat plenty of melon and cucumbers this will reduce fluid retention and increase the tiny blood vessels in the kidneys. this is why more water escapes into the kidneys for elimination.
  • make a strong infusion of yarrow and peppermint and steep 1 tablespoon of each in a pint of water strain and chill. when the mixture is completely chilled take your strips of cloth and soak wrap around your lower legs and relax with your legs elevated in your recliner leave on for about 30 minutes or so. This will discourage fluid retention there in those areas.
  • ALWAYS CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR WHEN DOING THIS METHODS .

Very true. I had a diabetic big toe amputation three days ago, and I need to go get back in my recliner right now. Best wishes to you.
